NWAC Announces Baden Winter Athletes of the Year

The NWAC has announced its recepients for the 2026 Winter Baden Athlete of the Year awards for men's and women's basketball after the completion of their respective seasons.

The winners are Bellevue's Will Woodward for men's basketball and Clackamas' Alana Washington for women's basketball. The awards were voted upon by the respective coaches for each sport at the conclusion of the regular season, prior to the beginning of the championship tournaments. 

Will Woodward • Bellevue • Men's Basketball

Woodward was a dominant force for the Bulldogs during the 2025-26 season, leading them to the best regular season record of 27-2 as they finished with a perfect North Region record of 14-0. Woodward played in all 32 games on the season, making 31 starts including three postseason contests. He averaged 16.2 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game, both top-15 in the conference. Woodward did so while just averaging 22.1 minutes per game as his per/40 minutes averages jumped to an incredible 29.2 points per game and 14.9 rebounds per game. 

During conference play, Woodward was even more dominant as he ranked 12th with 19.1 points per game and fifth in rebounds per game at 9.1. He also shot 61.6 percent from the field, ranking sixth in the NWAC. Again, he did so while averaging a low 24.3 minutes per game due to the Bulldogs winning 13 of 14 conference games by 10 or more points. He helped Bellevue finish the season as the unanimous No. 1 team in the final coaches' poll as they reached the NWAC Final Four in the postseason.



Alana Washington • Clackamas • Women's Basketball

Washington transferred over to Clackamas before the season with sister Mae Washington, immediately making a huge impact on the team to lead them to an undefeated regular season recored of 29-0, including sweeping the ever-tough South Region with a 16-0 record. Apart from games against Lane and Umpqua, the Cougars won every region game by at least 20 points. Washington was an integral piece as she ranked fourth on the season in points per game at 18.4. She filled up the stat sheets across the board as well, ranking 14th with 8.6 rebounds per game while leading all players in total assists (165) and blocks (58). Washington was additionally efficient shooting the ball as she ranked eighth with a 49.9 field goal percentage and eighth from the free-throw line at 77.4 percent.

Washington did all this averaging under 30 minutes per game at 29.7. Alana helped lead Clackamas to the South Region title and finish unanimously atop the final coaches' poll. She helped lead the team to the finals, but an injury cut her tournament short. Washingotn had 13 games with 20 or more points and had 11 double-doubles on the season.
